This was Anita's first solo hit. Then she ran into problems with Beverly Glen which kept her from releasing new material until 1986. When Rapture dropped, the public lost their minds. That lp remains her best work. Anita was also an outstanding live act. I'm so sorry you missed it. ;)

Thank you for reacting to this album. I love Steely Dan. The 70s was the best decade for great music, most artists had their own sound. SD rocked my world. A DJ turned me onto them when I was a teen. This album is perfection, then again so are most SD lps. "King Of The World" is still my fav song.

The kinda sad part is (Baker and I are about the same age), we took all this for granted. We thought, of course you have to be this good to get a record deal. No one saw the state of today's popular music coming.

For her to be blown away by Janis ... was huge .Mama Cass could really relate to Janis here because she to had been badly scarred by someone she was in love with. Janis so adored betsy Smith that she saw that noone had evengotten her a tomb stone ( Look up betsy smith ) Betsy Smith was a blues singer. when Janis was making her way from Texas ( where she was born ) she started going to greenwich village in New Yor. A huge hub at the time for folks and blues and where a lot of musicians first made start. Alot of well know musicians started like that . huge stars like Jimmy Hendrix, the mama and the papas , Peter Paul and Mary , Bob dillon , even walt whitman and Mark Twain ( one of the top writers ever )
